How the Match Score Works
The tool extracts meaningful keywords and phrases from the job description — skills, tools, qualifications and role-specific terminology — while filtering out common words that carry no signal (like "the," "and," "will," "with"). It then checks which of those terms appear in your resume and calculates a percentage match. Terms that appear multiple times or prominently in the job posting are weighted more heavily, since ATS keyword matching in real systems works the same way — a skill mentioned three times in a job posting is treated as more critical than one mentioned once.
Why Paste Text Instead of Uploading a File
Most competing tools ask you to upload a PDF or Word file, which then gets parsed on their server. This introduces two problems: your resume — a document containing your name, contact details, employment history and often your address — passes through a third party's infrastructure, and PDF parsing is notoriously unreliable, especially for resumes with columns, tables or graphic elements, which is often exactly the kind of formatting that trips up a real ATS too. What "ATS-Friendly Formatting" Actually Means
